Let me introduce myself I am a professional photographer based in West Dorset, have lived and worked in Dorset for most of my life, but have had brief flirtations in the home counties and London, as well as working and having extended breaks in Spain and Paris, my favourite city’s being, Bath, Granada and Paris. I'm still married, fifteen years and three children on and am still allowed to persue my hobby and main interest in photography which I have now turned into my main source of income. I take my hat off to them as they have put up with me trudging up Ben Nevis or Snowdon in the hail, mist and rain, caving or exploring the foothills of the Seira Nevada in Spain. Hanging around patiently for hours as I wait for the elements to come together and get THAT picture.
I’d like to think that this is reflected in my work, as I don't like following standards, I like to set higher ones and raise the bar, I feel I’ve covered most aspects of photography specialising in landscape, weddings and portraiture. I'm more than happy to undertake all aspects of the trade, including, press, freelance, commercial or commissions. I have invested heavily to ensure that I have the latest cutting edge equipment, software and technology at my disposal.
I use various Nikon camera’s for all my professional work; these being totally reliable and built to a high specification, and yet to let me down. The F5, F4’s, F90Xpro and F801’s take care of all the important neg stuff. And for digital I have the trusted D1 and D200, a recent addition to my kit. Various flashguns illuminate and lift my work to a higher level, these being the SB80DX, SB800 and the SB24 speedlights. Bowens studio lights are used and photoshop CS2 takes care of any tweaks that might need doing to optimise the final image.
In addition to these I also have an Olympus OM2n and F3, these being the camera’s that got me started, so they have a special place in my heart. Long before the new generation of high tech, all singing, all dancing camera’s that are around today. Not to mention the digital revolution and advancements that have been made. I have a real affection for how things used to be, having cut my teeth on the more hands on approach, developing, processing hand printing my work in the dark room, its easy to forget that this is where it all started. How can you not feel nostalgic about dodging, burning and painting with light to create that black and white enlargement, images taking shape in the developer as the silver halides do their magic and that stolen moment in time comes to life in front of your eyes.
I hope that my photographs reach out and touch you in the same way that they did me when I was composing them for the first, and don’t shout at you like a lot of things do in this world. Someone once asked me what was the best photo that I had ever taken. My answer was, I haven't taken it yet.
I look forward to your call or e-mail then we can discuss your requirements, tailored to your budget and needs.
